Founded in the 15th century, it belonged to the Patriarchate of Constantinople and is one of the oldest in New Epidaurus. During the Ottoman rule, the monastery’ contribution to education was of paramount importance. After the liberation, it ran the Allilodidaktikon Scholeion (a Peer-to-Peer School), paying the teacher’s salary. The Holy Relics of St. Gabriel, St. Niphon’s assistant and founder of the monastery, are conserved in a silver shrine, located in the Katholikon (major church building) of the monastery.
