The Methana Volcano

Back

The Methana peninsula was created by a volcanic eruption. This volcanic activity dates back between 276 and 239 BC and has been described in the texts of ancient historians Strabo, Pausanias and Ovid. It is striking that 30 volcanic craters have been discovered in Methana so far! The greatest of these is located near the village of Kameni Chora, which is situated very close by, on the edge of the red lava.
